Last semester I was a teaching assistant in Advanced II Speaking and Vocabulary. This is me and the students. The instructor's taking the picture. It was a really great class; I loved it!

Hi, I'm Santina. I'm 21 and an undergraduate TESL major. I've lived in Ohio all my life (isn't it sad?): I was born in Parma and grew up in North Royalton. It's just me and my mom, though I have a sister eight years my senior who is getting married this spring. My family comes from Italy, which I bring up a lot because I'm really proud of my heritage.

I think I'm kind of weird among TESL majors because I don't have much interest in travelling abroad to teach. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be cool. But I'm a homebody and besides, I enjoy helping people who come here. I have a HUGE passion for linguistics, so needless to say I love English as a language and how wacky it is. Besides English, I've studied four other languages--German, French, Spanish, and Japanese--though I'm not fluent in any of them. I feel like I have ADD with languages; there are just too many I want to study.

I enjoy reading and playing video games. My favorite authors are all children's and YA writers: Diana Wynne Jones, Megan Whalen Turner, Mary Hoffman, Garth Nix... I prefer single-player console games over social networking games like the ones on Facebook. I like movies and TV shows, too, but only if they're really focused on plot and characters. Basically I'm a person who loves stories. I love shopping and good food; I'm spoiled and was raised on my mother's and grandmother's home cooking. As for dislikes, I can emphatically say I don't like sports, haha. Football, basketball, baseball, soccer, whatever--I'm completely apathetic to all of them at best. And I absolutely hate winter!
